When an employee of a small business applies for car finance, a lender is often satisfied with a few recent payslips to show capacity to repay.
Ironically, the employer, whose business pays that employee's wages, often faces far more scrutiny when applying for vehicle finance.
Before approving finance for a business owner, a lender will commonly look for comfort in the business's position. That can mean business financials, personal tax returns, bank statements, BAS statements, and business and personal assets and liabilities.
Whether you go through your own bank or the dealership's finance desk, the process can be slower and more involved.
There is an easier way
The good news is that a range of Australian lenders offer business vehicle finance without extensive financial information. In some cases they require none at all.
Each lender's requirements are different, though, which makes it hard for a business to find the option that suits its situation.
Requirements for no-financials finance vary between lenders based on factors such as:
- Is the vehicle new or used?
- If used, how old is it?
- Are you buying from a dealer or a private seller?
- How long has the business been operating?
- Do you or the business own property?
Is there a catch?
Why do some lenders ask for extensive financial information while others don't?
Many lenders assess vehicle finance in one of two ways: (1) a full assessment, with financial information, or (2) a streamlined no-financials assessment, where little or no financial information is needed.
Pricing and conditions can differ between the two, and between lenders. A streamlined assessment takes less of a lender's time to process, which is part of why lenders offer it.
If an application doesn't fit a lender's streamlined policy, the lender may ask for more information and do a full assessment instead.
Finding the right lender
Lender requirements vary and change often, depending on competition, demand and the economy.
You could search online and try to sort through lenders yourself, but many lenders don't publish their application policies, so it isn't easy.
The alternative is a broker who specialises in business finance, such as Broadlink, who works with these lender policies every day.
We can help you understand which lenders' policies are likely to suit your vehicle, your business and how much information you can provide. Then we facilitate the application for you.
We don't charge customers a fee for arranging finance; the lender pays the broker. In rare cases there may be an upfront charge for a specific extra service the lender doesn't cover, such as an equipment inspection. Lenders may charge their own establishment fees, and government fees can apply depending on the finance type.
